TAICHUNG, JEN-AI HOSPITAL - DALI

¡@¡@Jen-Ai Hospital - Dali is honored to learn that two abstracts submitted by us were selected by the 2nd Asia Pacific Conference on Risk Management for Preventive Medicine (APCRMPM) for publication. These were the only two papers from Taiwan. The abstracts are "Sick Building Syndrome in a Hospital" headed by Dr. Chan Liao, Superintendent of Jen-Ai Hospital, for abstract presentation and "International Patient Center - Ensuring Patient Safety for International Communities" headed by the International Patient Center for poster presentation. Mark Chan, Program Director of International Patient Center, attended the conference.

¡@¡@ The conference was held from October 1 to 3, 2005 in Kota Bharu, Malaysia. It was organized by the Union of Risk Management for Preventive Medicine (URMPM) and World Health Risk Management Centre (WHRMC). There were 32 abstracts from the U.K., Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan invited for presentation and 33 for posters, which were from Malaysia and Taiwan. The Superintendent hopes that many more English abstracts concerning risk management, patient safety, and hospital management from Taiwan can be shared with foreign scholars in the future.

¡@¡@ During the three-day conference, over 185 representatives from 10 countries attended. Twenty-four speakers from the U.K., Australia, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia were invited to speak about "Health Risk Management: Current and Future Tool of Preventive Medicine", which was the theme of the conference. Scholars from around the world were able to exchange ideas through their presentations.

¡@¡@ Due to the submission of the abstracts, Jen-Ai Hospital - Dali received a certificate of appreciation, and the selected abstracts were published in the Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine. The abstract by IPC was also accepted for oral presentation at the 1st International Forum of Patient Safety in January 2006, Tokyo, Japan. Since the topic of medical risk management is an important health issue and is gaining increased global attention, the next Asia Pacific Conference on Risk Management for Preventive Medicine is scheduled to be held in Bangkok, Thailand.

¡@¡@ In recent years, the topics of preventive medicine and risk management have become widely discussed health issues. What is preventive medicine? The concept of preventive medicine is that prevention prevails over treatment. Risk management is to take precautions against future calamity and ensure safety. Through the establishment of Risk Management Department, Jen-Ai Hospital - Dali is able to identify various risks in the medical environment, and to prevent the occurrence of related problems. In addition, International Patient Center is set up to provide a safe medical environment for foreign patients. Overall, all topics on patient safety are goals to be achieved by the hospital. Winning such an honor is also a motive for the hospital to move forward.
